Monuments

Castillo of Santa Barbara

Located at the summit of Mount Benacantil, at 166 metres of altitude, it is one of the largest medieval fortresses in Spain from which you can see perfectly the bay of Alicante.

Cathedral of San Nicolás

The construction of the Reinaissance St. Nicholas Cathedral started in 1600. It is situated in the centre of the city.

Basilica of Santa Maria

It is the oldest church in the city, from XIV century. It was built on the remnants of the Islamic mosque of Alicante. It consists of a single building, no cruise, with side chapels between the buttresses.

Museums

Museo Arqueológico MARQ

Created in 1932, it was initially located in the basement of the Council building on Avenida de la Estación de Alicante. Since 2002, it is located in the former premises of the Hospital Provincial San Juan de Dios.

Gravina Fine Arts Museum (MUBAG)

The museum uses the Gravina Palace as an exhibition space. It is an eighteenth century building which belonged to the Count of Lumiares and hosted the Provincial Archives. It contains works donated by the Provincial Council of Alicante as well as works of art from Alicante from the Middle Ages to the early decades of the twentieth century.

Museum of Contemporary Art (MACA)

It is the oldest civil building in the city. In Baroque style, it dates from 1685 and is located next to the Basilica of Santa Maria. Initially conceived as a grain store. It also served for teaching purposes -trade school- and finally ended up as a museum.

It is a sign of identity for people from Alicante and also a must visit for tourists.

Canalejas Park

Ideal for relaxing and reading, is characterized by having Ficus, large trees.

Ereta Park

If you just want nice views, go to the park and peek to see the sea, the cathedral and practically the entire city.

Port of Alicante

This Mediterranean port has its origins in the 15th century and was built under the reign of King Juan II.
